| Enhanced Lane Closure Management System
(ELMS) |
| VALTRANS SYSTEMS’ staff has developed and deployed a statewide lane closure management system for the California Department of Transportation. The system enables the users to send freeway lane closure requests over the Internet using simple yet well-designed smart forms. The system checks the validity of the requests prior to its data capture into ELMS database. The system also allows traffic engineers to receive the lane closure requests electronically and to approve or deny these requests. |

| ELMS also disseminate closure information by email to all involved parties and alert the appropriate agency in case of a late closure pickup. The system is capable of generating management and public real-time reports and maps. |

| ELMS has been in use in the State of California since June 2000 and has registered and managed over 49,000 closures. The system has served over 700 transportation engineers, fire and police departments, emergency response centers as well as the public at large. |
